I am looking for some cute, colorful beach or boardwalk theme bedroom ideas for a teen girl (13 to be exact) that won't be unbelievably expensive or too difficult for me to make decorations and do it myself.

I would like to hear your thoughts on what color should be used to paint a beach themed bedroom and whether or not I should make allowances for the strands of clear, twinkle lights and strands of Mardi Gras beads around the ceiling that my daughter insists are COOL!

The look I'm after is something girly and cute without making it too kitschy (read: tacky and cheap looking).

We saw a movie that featured some beach scenes with people strolling on the boardwalk some years ago when she was a pre-teen and she has been hounding me to give her bedroom a makeover in in this theme ever since! The problem is that she loves a carnival (Coney Island?) atmosphere and I'm not crazy about it. I could go with a set of flip flop or tropical fish bedding, but she's not wild about anything I've found including the one in the above pictures.

Any suggestions for beach or boardwalk theme bedroom ideas or bedroom decorating ideas, with pictures if possible, for a teen girl that will get her off this kick will be greatly appreciated.

How about using a raffia skirt as her bed skirt? They can be found at any party store and could also be used as a valance above window.

Above the bed you might go for a tiki hut look with a thatch roof feel, making it come over her head for privacy.

On the walls find some shops along the beach board walk and put up signs along the walls. They even sell these in some of the stores on the boardwalks so it would look totally authentic.

I love the beach cottage bedding set that you like, but teens don't always get into what we like. Until you get her to show you a beach comforter set that she likes, wall paint color is the least of your problems.

I saw a lot of beach themed decorations at Homegoods recently maybe the two of you could visit there to see if anything appeals to her.

I just love idea of a boardwalk or beach bedroom theme! However, it seems to me that your daughter is not as attracted to the beach as she is a carnival atmosphere, though.

I'm not sure if you would think that this is tacky or not, but how about making an arrangement of colorful beach umbrellas to hang from the bedroom ceiling? Maybe you could find some lightweight, paper kind at a party decorations store.
