Pink, Green and White Retro Owl bedding and bedroom ideas
Last fall I convinced a teen girl to work with me on some owl theme bedroom ideas using one of the cute, retro owl bedding sets as an inspiration for a bedroom that I was decorating for her.
The owl theme originally didn't appeal to her because she wanted a modern design and the earth tones usually associated with owls just wasn't what she was looking for. Her attitude was that "brown bedrooms are for boys"!
For those of you that don’t recall that teen girl's bedroom makeover, the colors in the comforter set that she finally approved were orange, olive green and yes, it had touches of brown in it.
I didn't tell her, but the color scheme was earthy enough for a teenage boy’s bedroom. Since she had expressed her dislike for unisex we took the approach that her owl bedroom was decorated in fall colors with a few girly decorations to soften things up and make the room more feminine.
This young lady has a habit of re-decorating her bedroom at least twice a year but she told me recently that she had no plans to transition into pastels for spring and that she was still very happy with her feminine (?) pastel owl bedding set and I can see why she would be willing to keep things as they are right on through next spring.
The lime green, lavender, pink and yellow fabrics of the quilt are as light and airy as the white, gauze curtains she chose as her window treatments.
And the rustic look of the section of river birch trunk located to the side of her headboard keeps the bedroom from being too girly. It fits right in with the whimsical owl theme bedroom ideas while adding texture with a nod to our feathered friends' natural habitat. If this room were for a tween instead of an older teen girl, I would have insisted that the tree have branches where I could have put some stuffed, toy owls matching the baby owls in the bedding set.
But since this room would be occupied by a teenage girl, the owl pillows and tree appliques patterns on the quilt do a nice job of tying the theme and colors together. The atmosphere is country cottage without excessive use of old-fashioned, floral fabrics.
