Shabby Chic Secretary in the Bedroom

by dolores mckee
(Midlothian, Tx)

What do you think about a shabby chic secretary in a girl's shabby chic bedroom? I have a very antique, oak drop leaf secretary desk that I would like to use as part of the furniture in my proposed shabby chic bedroom design.

The oak secretary measures to be about 30 inches wide and about 18 inches deep.

Should I include this shabby chic secretary in the bedroom or should I look for something else that would have more of a "Paris Apartment" feel?

If anyone happens to have any pictures of bedrooms with such a piece of furniture featured as part of the furnishings I would appreciate it if you would either direct me to the website where they are on display or post them here so that I can get an idea of how to blend the desk with a dresser, headboard, etc. into the bedroom design.

Shabby Chic Oak Furniture
by: Anonymous

Most of the shabby chic oak furniture that I've seen was painted or distressed. You don't say whether or not your secretary is in fine antique condition or whether it's well, shabby.

Since you say it's "very nice" I'm going to assume that it's finish is in good shape which in my opinion would not be in keeping with your proposed bedroom style.

If you want to keep the piece in good antique condition, I would use it elsewhere in your home and hit the flea markets and junk stores to find a piece with already chipping paint or something that you could paint and distress for sale at a cheap price.

Here's an article on how to distress furniture to give it a shabby look but mind that I'm not recommending that you use this technique on your secretary!
