TOMMY BAHAMA DECORATING STYLE
BEDROOM DECORATING IDEAS
TOMMY BAHAMA BEDDING

There is no good way to begin but with a set of Tommy Bahama bedding if you want that unique Tommy Bahama decorating style in your bedroom. Don’t ask me how I know, but trying to second guess professionals when tropical decorating ideas are based on this line of merchandise is a complete waste of time and will not save you money!
Okay, I told you not to ask but to qualify my remarks I will tell you the short version of an ill fated bedroom decorating project from a few years ago. In the initial consultation, my client indicated that her favorite style of bedroom decor was not exactly what one might call Hawaiian but she liked the atmosphere of a tropical island in a subdued color scheme.

TOMMY BAHAMA PINEAPPLE GIRL BEDDING  starstarstarstarstar

My daughter was in love with this tropical Tommy Bahama Pineapple Girl bedding set until one of her friends popped off with a remark about the Hawaiian ...

Right out of the gate, Tommy Bahama bedding came to mind. The designers who are behind this line of merchandise have a real knack for making shades of blue, green and beige look breezy, tropical and calm unlike tropical prints that include hot pink, bright yellow and the like.

For my follow up visit, I included some Tommy Bahama fabric swatches taken from a set of Tommy Bahama bedding that I used in a previous project on my bedroom inspiration board and my client fell in love with the relaxing color scheme and the palm tree patterns of the (Viscaya) comforter set. The peachy coral color in combination with leaf green on the bedding is lovely and I thought she had made a good choice.

Everything was going well until we started to choose fabric for the window treatments. I recommended that she have her curtains made with antique ivory fabric and I could tell that she was not on board. She said that she wanted more color so I suggested that she go with a coral pink fabric. Once again, she rejected my ideas and said she wanted to have her drapes made out of the same fabric as the comforter in her Tommy Bahama bedding. I hated to say it but I didn’t have a resource for the palm tree print fabric. The outcome of this was that she said that the comforter set was too expensive not to have matching window treatments in the collection.

She then decided that she could copy the Tommy Bahama style of decorating using a cheap bed in a bag set. One was ordered (against my better judgment) that had a palm tree pattern and when it arrived my client was disappointed and immediately returned it and admitted that she should have gone with my original ideas. The bedroom turned out beautifully but was more expensive than it should have been as the shipping cost for the bed in a bag set was substantial.

The lesson learned here is that designer bedding companies have teams of designers on staff who make it their business to know all there is to know about matching fabrics and creating bedroom color schemes. To try and second guess them is an exercise in futility that may only complicate matters and deliver less than perfect results.
